DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONS*: Full-time, permanent, administrative/professional positions, reporting to the Assistant Director of Admissions. These positions market WSU Vancouver to prospective students through individual admissions counseling appointments, recruitment events, E-mail, and phone calls. This responsibility requires a thorough knowledge of WSU academic programs, policies, and procedures and close collaboration with both on- and off-campus constituents.
Responsibilities include providing admissions counseling to prospective students, planning and implementing recruitment activities, participating in recruitment events, and conducting outreach to the high schools, community colleges, and community at large. Review applicant files and make appropriate recommendations. Work with admissions team to develop strategic recruitment plan; create and update recruitment materials; and assist with website content development and maintenance. Other administrative duties as assigned.
Some travel, evening, and weekend work required.
*In addition to the above responsibilities, one of the positions will also provide relevant support services to a small population of international students in achieving their educational objectives. These responsibilities (which make up approximately 20-25% of the Admissions Counselor position) include: informing and educating international students and scholars about immigration regulations and WSU policies and procedures; issuing documents and performing other event based reporting to SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System); and authorizing school transfers, reduced course loads, and certain types of employment for international students. Plan an orientation and immigration check-in process each semester for international students new to WSU Vancouver. Assist with international student application processing and production of I-20’s. Serve as a resource to the campus and community on international issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree. • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in an educational setting providing advising/counseling. Other related experiences will be considered. • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. • Computer literacy to include experience with Microsoft Office Suite. • Demonstrated experience working collegially and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and faculty. • Must have valid driver’s license and be willing to travel, work some weekends and evenings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**: • Master’s degree in related field. • Admissions counseling experience in a higher education setting. • Experience with completing unofficial evaluation of transcripts and working one-on-one with transfer students. • Demonstrated experience providing services, counseling, and/or programming for diverse populations • Experience organizing, planning, and evaluating programs and presentations.
** For admissions counseling position which includes some international student advising, preferred qualifications include: International student advising experience. Knowledge of federal immigration regulations and procedures related to F- and J-visa categories and evaluation of compliance issues. Familiarity with SEVIS database. Foreign language competency and overseas study or living experience.
SALARY: $36,000 annually
