This individual will report to the Associate Director for Recruitment and Outreach.  Program coordination responsibilities include certain invitational programs of the Office of Admissions. Admissions recruitment, counseling, outreach and application review are all significant functions of this position.

Key Duties
Coordinate the Washington Summer Scholars program, a two-night on-campus experience designed to recruit targeted prospective applicants to the UW.  Work closely with other departments on campus to offer academic sessions as a part of this program.  Hire and train four student ambassadors who help with the implementation of the program.

 

Assist the Assistant Director for Freshman Review and other staff in overseeing the review process, including hiring and training the Graduate Assistant readers, who contribute the bulk of the approximately 25,000 reviews, preparing training materials, and scheduling training sessions.

 

Represent the University both on- and off-campus to a prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process.  Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories, including travel to distant sites in the state of Washington and nationally.

 

Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the UW.  One-on-one admissions counseling to diverse populations is an important responsibility of this position.  Admissions counseling occurs primarily by in-person appointments, phone calls and emails.  Review and assess application essays and other materials submitted by applicants for the purposes of making admission decisions.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of admissions counseling and outreach experience, or equivalent. Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations.  Basic familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database software tools. Ability to represent the admissions profession positively through a strong, student-centered ethic.

 

Desired:

· Experience coordinating campus visit programs, or general experience with program coordination. 

· Graduate of the University of Washington or a similar research university.

Master's degree, ideally in a related field.

 

Condition of Employment:

This position requires the ability to travel to remote locations and to load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment. Some evening and weekend hours required, especially during the travel season.
